Elson Designs Video of a Die Casting being produced in China (Cold Chamber)

Die casting being produced here is one of 4 making up an IP 66 enclosure assembly for a WiMAX Base Station. The die casting process makes for a very reasonably priced unit, weighing approximately 2.5Kgs and measuring 473 x 138 x 81mm cost including tapping, plating and painting is about £26 (December 2011). The video shows there were handling issues to be address for before production. Flatness was also an issue, when cast the bow over the length was about 1mm and over the inner width just over 0.6mm. With a press fixture the final bow (flatness) of less than 0.2mm was consistently achieved! For additional information feel free to discuss, please email info@elsondesigns.co.uk

Elson Designs Extrusion CNC

There are a number of large extrusions designed by Elson Designs. An extrusion is usually inexpensive tooling although the tolerances for the finished item can be quite large? First time I realised how large these tolerances were I was momentarily put off the process! However a competent tool maker with experience can make the finished item far better than extrusion tolerances would suggest. As a rule a toolmaker/extruder can achieve 2/3 the tolerance of that shown in EN755-9? Extract of EN755-9 For additional information feel free to discuss, please email info@elsondesigns.co.uk
